<note>This research aims to determine how many errors are made by second-semester students in the English study program at PGRI Silampari University. This research design is qualitative with descriptive method. Data collection techniques using documentation of students’ writing in argumentative text. In this research, the researcher gave argumentative text writing sheet to the students who were the samples of the research. There were no specific topics in the writing test, students were free to write on any theme. The time allocation were 60 minutes. The technique of analyzing data with steps: 1. Data Collection, 2. Data Reduction, 3. Display the Data, 4. Making Conclusion. The results of this research showed that The punctuation used by the second semester students tends to be a period, comma, and apostrophe. One of the three marks that were often wrong in writing text was using a comma. The capitalization used by the second semester students is at the beginning of the sentence; it was mostly correct in all of the sentences, although a few students did not write correctly. Then, in capitalized proper noun or adjective, only one student used it on his argumentative text, and it was incorrect. Some students have capitalized the title, heading, and sub-heading incorrectly.. From the data, it can be concluded that, there were many students who still did not know or master the use of punctuation and capitalization.
