<note>This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) strategy in improving students' speaking skill and students' responses to the strategy at MAN 1 Lubuklinggau. This study used a pre-experimental method with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The research sample consisted of 44 in grade XI.1 who were selected through cluster sampling techniques. Data were obtained through two instruments, namely speaking skill tests (pre-test and post-test) and questionnaires. The results of the analysis showed a significant increase in students' speaking skill. The average pre-test score was 44.59, while the post-test score increased to 79.77. The results of the paired t-test showed that the t-count value was 21.32, which was greater than the t-table value of 2.016 at a significance level of 0.05 with df = 43, indicating that the increase was statistically significant. Meanwhile, the results of the questionnaire showed that most students gave  positive responses to the implementation of the PBL strategy and that most of them agreed with the statements in the questionnaire. Thus, it could be concluded that the PBL strategy was effective in improving students' speaking skill and was well received by them.
