A PSYCHOLINGUISTIC STUDY ON SLIPS OF THE TONGUE MADE BY NATIVE AND NON-NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKER

This research aimed to analyze the types of slip of the tongue and the dominant type of slip of the tongue made by native and non-native English speaker. The method applied was descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research are Joe Biden as the native English speaker and Jokowi as the non-native English speaker. The data were taken from video of Joe Biden’s speech at United Nations General Assembly 2023 and video of Jokowi’s speech at Ecosperity Week 2023, obtained from YouTube. The collected data were transcribed and analyzed based on the types of slip of the tongue proposed by Altiparmark and Koruoglu (2014). The result of the research were 37 slips of the tongue found in the utterances by native and non-native English speakers. Native English speaker produced 22 slips of the tongue: deletions 10, 4 additions, 4 subtitutions, and 3 anticipations. Non-native English speaker produced 15 slips of the tongue: 7 deletions, 5 additions, 1 subtitutions, I anticipations, and 1 misdevations. Therefore, native English produced 4 types of slip of the tongue meanwhile non-native English speaker produced 5 types of slip of the tongue and deletions was the dominant types occured in both of speakers.
