AN ANALYSIS OF TOXIC FRIENDSHIP FOUND IN BARBIE: PRINCESS CHARM SCHOOL FILM BY ZEKE NORTON

This research aimed to analyze the characteristics of toxic friendship found in the film Barbie: Princess Charm School by Zeke Norton which was released in 2011. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive method to collect data. The researcher watched this film repeatedly until the researcher comprehend the story of the film Barbie: Princess Charm School from July to August 2024 as subject source of collecting data. The data were analyzed by using Jan Yager's theory about characteristics of toxic friendship. The results of the research showed that the researcher found 11 data from the 4 characteristics of toxic friendship according to Jan Yager, there are critic (2), no empathy (7), always dependent (2) and the researcher did not find any characteristic of stubborn in the film. Overall, the result was of this analysis show that in these films, toxic friendship were more often characterized by a no empathy, followed by critic and always dependent. The characteristic of stubborn did not see relevant in describing toxic friendship in the context of this film.
