AN ANALYSIS OF TEACHER QUESTIONING STRATEGIES AND STUDENTS’ RESPONSE DURING CLASSROOM INTERACTION AT SMAN 3 LUBUKLINGGAU
XML JSONThe aims of this research were to identify types of questions used by the English teacher, to find out the reasons teacher used questioning strategies and to describe students' responses to teachers questioning strategies. The method of this research used descriptive qualitative research. This research was conducted at SMAN 3 Lubuklinggau especially with English teachers. The techniques of collecting data were observation and interview. After collecting data, the data were analyzed in following steps: data reduction, data display, and drawing conlusion. The result of this research found that the teachers used procedural questions (11 data), convergent questions (27 data), and divergent questions (9 data). There were several reason toward teacher used questioning strategies such as, to make the class interactive, to make students participate in learning, to improve student skills, to get feedback from students, to measure student understanding and to stimulate students about the material. The students response teachers’ questioning by using students-specific response (18 data), student open-ended response (12 data), and silence (6 data). In conclusion, the English teacher at SMAN 3 Lubuklinggau was used all the types of teacher questioning strategies, the reason the teacher used questioning strategies to know deep ability about the material by the students, and students responses used three of the types of students responses.
