THE SOCIOLINGUISTIC ANALYSIS OF DAD JOKE ON THE YEAHMAD YOUTUBE CHANNEL

This research aimed to analyze the type and classify the functions of dad joke that appeared on the YeahMad YouTube Channel. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method to collect the data, through watching the 7 chosen videos in a span of time from January to June 2024 as a sample to take the data. The data were analyzed by using the theory by Meyer which was the type and the functions of jokes. The results showed that the researcher found 109 dad jokes on the videos that can be analyzed into the type and the functions of jokes. Overall, the dad jokes in YeahMad videos can be classified into the type of joke based on Meyer, which is anecdotal (12), canned (19), situational (11), self-deprecating (4), wordplay (29), irony (14), and sarcasm (20). The functions of joke also which is identification (21), clarification (45), enforcement (14), and differentiation (29). In conclusion, the researcher could answer the first research question in which to found the types of dad joke that found on YeahMad YouTube Channel, and the second question in which to classified the functions of each dad jokes from YeahMad YouTube Channel.
