DESCRIBING PICTURE STRATEGY TO TEACH SPEAKING SKILL AT THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF MADRASAH TSANAWIYAH QUR'ANIAH MATARAM

The problem of this research was “is it significantly effective to teach speaking by using describing picture strategy to the seventh grade students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Qur'aniah Mataram?”. The objective of this research was to find out whether or not it is significanly effective to teach speaking by using describing picture strategy to the seventh grade students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Qur'aniah Mataram. The learning strategy used was describing pictures strategy with one group pre-test and post-test. The total population on this research was 187 students coming from six classes. The sample was taken through cluster random sampling. The sample of this research was VII.1 as the sample with the total number of sample was 30 students. Based on the findings on chapter IV, the researcher concluded that the used of describing pictures strategy was significantly effective to teach sepaking skill for the seventh grade students of MTs Qur’aniah Mataram. There was no difference between the students pre-test and post-test score. In the pre-test score, the assessment results were obtained from 30 students who had worked on the questions, 30 students scored below the standard given so that they were categorized as "failed". In the post-test score, the assessment results were obtained from 30 students who had worked on the questions, 30 students scored below the standard given so that they were categorized as "failed". Furthermore, the researcher found out that the result of paired t-test calculation showed that sig. (2-tailed) was 0,001 < 0,05. It means that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and automatically the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. There was not significant progress on the achievement after used describing pictures strategy to teach speaking skill for seventh grade students MTs Qur’aniah Mataram.
