THE ANALYSIS OF SEMANTICS MEANING FOUND IN COMMENTS OF CINTA LAURAS’ INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT CLAURAKIEHL

This research aimed to discover and identify the types of semantic meanings found in the comments section of one of the social media platforms, Instagram. In this research, the researcher used a descriptive qualitative method and the researcher herself as the instrument in collecting research data. The data in this research consisted of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences originating from the comments section of the feed on Cinta Laura's Instagram account, Claurakiehl. The researcher only selected comments using English as the primary data in this research. The data were analysed into seven types of semantic meaning based on the theory of Leech (1981). Based on the analysis, seven types of semantic meaning were found in a total of 516 comments on Cinta Laura's Instagram account. These semantic meanings consist of; 108 (20,9%) conceptual meanings, 93 (18,0%) connotative meanings, 49 (9,5%) social meanings, 227 (44,0%) affective meanings, 24 (4,7%) reflective meanings, 2 (0,4%) collocative meanings, and 13 (2,5%) thematic meanings. The most common type of semantic meaning was affective meaning (44,0%). Instagram users express their opinions and thoughts about posts in an expressive and emotionally engaging manner, where this affective meaning represents the user's personal feelings about a post. In this regard, emojis play a crucial role in conveying realistic feelings, attitudes, and emotions among Instagram users.
