ENHANCING SPEAKING SKILL THROUGH PEER TEACHING STRATEGY TO THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMA NEGERI 4 LUBUKLINGGAU
XML JSONThis study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Peer Teaching strategy in improving students' speaking skills. This study was motivated by various problems faced by grade XI students at SMA Negeri 4 Lubuklinggau, such as low comprehension, inappropriate grammar, limited vocabulary, and lack of confidence and motivation in speaking English. The research method used was a pre-experimental with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The research sample was 34 students from grade XI.5 in the 2024/2025 academic year. The data collection technique used an oral speaking test conducted before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the treatment. The results of the study showed a significant increase in students' speaking skills. The average pre-test score of students was 60.29, with 74% of students in the "Fail" qualification. After the implementation of the Peer Teaching strategy with video media, the average post-test score increased to 72.47, and the percentage of students achieving the "Pass" qualification increased to 68%. The results of the paired t-test showed a p-value of 0.00 (<0.05), which indicates that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of the Peer Teaching strategy is significantly effective in improving the speaking skills of grade XI students at SMA Negeri 4 Lubuklinggau.
